Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is a young adult mystery novel. In the story the wife sets up her husband to be framed for her disappearance. The first half of the novel is told through the husbands point of view and the second half is told through her point of view. 

The design solution for the dust jacket uses a pair of black shoes as a symbol. They symbolize her upscale, swanky personality as well as symbolizing that the person who was wearing the shoes is gone or has disappeared.
